A Roto hired from UK Forks has proved “essential” in a project to self-build a passive house in Scotland’s capital.
The 30m Roto with a winch attachment was initially hired over a telehandler for two weeks over the summer as the only access to the site in the Portobello area of Edinburgh was from a road, and it will probably be required later on in the build which is expected to complete next summer.
It was specified by furniture designer Rory Middleton, of Rory Middleton Studios, who is building the house for his family using a SIPs (Structural Insulated Panels) shell designed, fabricated and installed by SIPS@Clays, a UK provider of SIPs buildings.
They have used the Roto, a Merlo 50.30 S Plus, to hoist heavy, large materials and steel posts and beams above and over the pre-assembled scaffolding.
