Isle of Grain Rotational Machine

This month Taylor Woodrow Construction have taken delivery from UK Forks of a Pegasus 40-25 rotational telehandler for the LNG project on the Isle of Grain. This is the second time that Taylor Woodrow have used UK Forks fleet with LNG tank construction, the last occasion being in Wales.

New Rotational Telehandler is delivered

Taylor Woodrow are using a Dieci 40-25 Pegasus to lift concrete form work shuttering for the construction to the base of one of the enormous LNG tanks. They are using the Pegasus as the tower cranes are stopped during periods of medium to high winds. The Pegasus can carry on working whilst the cranes are out of play enabling their project to carry on.

As the UK demand for gas is increasing, North Sea gas supplies are declining. In fact, by 2010 it's estimated that around 50% of the UK's gas will have to be imported. It's a challenge that the Isle of Grain LNG site is uniquely positioned to address - and one that presents a considerable opportunity for engineering and marine professionals to play their part in powering history.

As the first of the UK's new breed of LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) importation terminals and process plants, the Isle of Grain site has been successfully importing and storing LNG since July 2005. Situated in north Kent, 40 miles east of central London, the terminal is ideally and in fact uniquely located to receive ships and unload LNG from the continent. It boasts an impressive capacity (including 200,000 cubic metres of cryogenic tanks) to safely store, manage and send up to 3.3 million tonnes of LNG into the UK gas transmission system every year.
